Lake Dillon (Dillon Reservoir)
Lake Dillon (Dillon Reservoir) is a premier Colorado destination known for being the world’s highest deep-water marina. The lake features 26 miles of stunning, mountain-surrounded shoreline. It offers unique high-altitude water sports, including kayaking, sailing, boating, and fishing. The Dillon Marina sits at over 9,000 feet, making it the highest deep-water marina in North America. Visitors can rent kayaks and paddleboards, from Adventure Times Rentals and the Frisco Bay Marina offers additional access to water toys, including pontoon boats.
The lake is framed by 14,000-foot peaks (the Tenmile and Gore ranges) and offers a “beachy” feel at high altitude. The original town of Dillon was moved and subsequently flooded between 1961 and 1963 to create the reservoir. Dillon Amphitheater, a popular venue right on the water’s edge, has free summer concerts and incredible views. The lake is stocked with 50,000 rainbow trout annually and is one of the few places to fish for Artic Char.
In addition to water activities, a paved bike path circles much of the lake, connecting the town of Dillon with Frisco, and the Dillon Farmers Market is highly rated.
