Keystone

A Family Friendly Feel and a History of Firsts

Welcome to Keystone Colorado!

Keystone is one of the best resorts for beginners and families.  It is located in Summit County, Colorado which is in close proximity to I-70 and Denver International Airport.  There are 5 different ski resorts within a 30 minute drive.  Breckenridge and Vail may be more well known, but Keystone is quiet, charming and one of the best resorts for beginners and families.

Keystone LakeThere are two main areas in Keystone; River Run Village and Mountain House.  River Run Village is designed like a European Village.  It hosts more than 500 condominium accommodations, restaurants and cafes, an ice skating rink and the main gondola to all the skiing action. And of course, it is home to the Kidtopia Headquarters.  Kidtopia Headquarters is located on the West side of River Run Village. It’s an indoor play area lots of toys and games for babies through elementary age kids. It’s open daily through the ski season.

How Keystone Came to Be

The founders of Keystone acquired land along the Snake River.  Once they acquired an additional 500 acres, the ski resort opened in 1970.   Lift tickets cost just $5! In 1972, Keystone became the first resort in Colorado to make snow.  Ralston Purina acquired the resort in 1974 and expanded the operation.  Then in 1997 Keystone merged with Breckenridge and Vail to for Vail Resorts.

Today, Keystone ranks as one of the largest ski areas in Colorado, offering terrain for all levels of riders and night skiing. Besides skiing, Keystone offers an array of winter and summer activities, as well as luxury spa services and world class dining. Yet, it retains the low-key, family atmosphere so integral to its original vision.

Looking for something more with a party feel?  Check Out Breckenridge.

To learn more about the founding of Keystone, you can purchase the book, By Chance  and learn about the story of Bill and Jane Bergman, who still reside in Keystone, Colorado.
