Visit Pearl Street Mall

After a morning outdoors, head downtown to explore Pearl Street Mall. This four-block pedestrian district serves as the heart of Boulder and features local boutiques, outdoor gear shops, art galleries, restaurants, coffee shops and street performers.

Summer evenings are particularly lively, with outdoor patios, musicians, and community events creating a welcoming atmosphere.

 


Bike Boulder’s Extensive Trail System

Boulder is one of the most bike-friendly cities in America. More than 300 miles of bike lanes and multi-use paths connect neighborhoods, parks, downtown attractions, and nearby communities.

Mountain Biking

If moving faster on the trails is your interest, then Boulder is your destination for the summer.  Boulder is one of the top mountain biking destinations along the Front Range.  There are numerous beginner trails for visitors new to mountain biking.  The Valmont Bike Park is a playground for seasoned riders and newbies too.  To search for local trails, visit Trailforks.com.  There are many local bike shops that rent mountain bikes.

Boulder and cycling are almost synonymous.  Did you know Boulder is a world class training ground for elite level cyclists and Ironman  competitors.  Made famous by the American Flyers movie, Boulder hosted a stage in the Colorado Classic back in the day.  You can trace the route of this iconic race or enjoy a leisure pedal along the Boulder Creek Path. There are miles of dedicated bike paths in and around Boulder.  You can rent a bike at a local bike shop.  They will help show you which bike best fits you.

When temperatures rise, Boulder Reservoir becomes a favorite summer destination.  There you can swim, paddleboard, kayak, and just relax. The reservoir provides a refreshing escape while remaining only minutes from downtown Boulder.

Families especially appreciate the designated swimming areas and sandy beach. And on the opposite end, there is a dog friendly entrance where your dog can cool off and make some friends.

Discover Eldorado Canyon State Park

Located just south of Boulder, Eldorado Canyon offers some of Colorado’s most spectacular scenery.  In addition to climbing, visitors can enjoy hiking and creek side picnics.

Towering canyon walls and scenic overlooks make this one of the most impressive natural attractions near Boulder. Timed-entry reservations are required in Eldorado Canyon State Park on weekends and holidays from May 1-October 1.

Passengers who ride the free weekend Eldo Shuttle (available Memorial Day to Labor Day) do not need reservations and are guaranteed entrance to the park (park fees still apply).

Beyond Boulder & Scenic Drives

Take a Scenic Drive Through Boulder Canyon

Boulder Canyon provides a beautiful introduction to Colorado’s mountain landscapes. The drive west from Boulder leads visitors toward Nederland and the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway while passing granite cliffs, mountain streams, historic sites and hiking trailheads

This route serves as an excellent day trip for visitors wanting to experience Colorado’s mountains without committing to a lengthy drive.

Visit Nederland

Just 25 minutes from Boulder, Nederland offers a completely different mountain-town experience.  Popular summer activities include hiking, fishing, mountain biking, shopping and live music.  Nederland also provides access to trails leading into the Indian Peaks Wilderness.

Explore the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway

One of Colorado’s most beautiful drives begins just outside Boulder. The Peak to Peak Scenic Byway travels through mountain forests and historic communities while offering views of the Continental Divide.  Highlights include the towns of Nederland, Ward, Allenspark and Estes Park.

This route makes an excellent day trip and can easily be combined with a visit to Rocky Mountain National Park.

Boulder’s location makes it an excellent basecamp for visiting Rocky Mountain National Park.

Located about an hour away, the park offers scenic drives, hikes to alpine lakes, wildlife viewing, and amazing photography opportunities.  Visitors frequently spot elk, mule deer, bighorn sheep, and marmots during the summer months.

Advance planning is recommended, as timed entry reservations are required during peak periods.
