Orvis Hot Springs
Orvis Hot Springs is a sacred place of healing for the Tabeguache band of the Utes. The Tabeguache lived in the Uncompahgre River valley before the Mexican and European settlement. Led by famed Ute Chief Ouray, the namesake of Ouray County, the Tabeguache soaked in the hot springs to receive its calming affects and curative powers. Today, these natural hot springs continue to offer therapeutic results to all who seek relaxation and rejuvenation.
Our hot springs in Ridgway have seven main naturally-occurring minerals with various health benefits. The waters here are most famous for their lithium content,

The Pools
There are seven unique pools at the Orvis Hot Springs. Each varies in size, temperature, and style.
The Pond
The Pond measures 40 feet across and reaches depths of up to five feet. Surrounding the pool on three sides, a redwood deck provides space to relax between soaks. Natural rock and boulders line the pond, and several seating areas allow guests to sit back and enjoy the views of 14,150-foot Mount Sneffels. Meanwhile, the naturally heated spring water maintains seasonal average temperatures between 100 and 106 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, a small attached plunge pool offers cooler water, giving guests a refreshing place to cool off and take a break from the heat.
Island Pond
Our cozy Island Pond is 20 feet long, eight feet across and two feet deep. Here, you can sit back and enjoy the stunning view and the relaxing sound of the cascading waterfall. This pond is fed by pure Crater water, coming out of the ground at about 127 degrees.
Smokers Pond
The Smokers Pond is a small, eight-foot round pool. The water temperature is 103 – 107 degrees. The Pond features a babbling waterfall and is the only soaking area at Orvis Hot Springs where smoking is allowed. Please note cannabis smoking is illegal.
Lobster Pot
The Lobster Pot is the hottest tub. The water temperature averages between 108 and 114 degrees. Its water source is a hot springs vein tapped at the well pit, located near the campground.
Cold Plunge
The Cold Plunge is our coldest pond and sits next to our Sauna. The water temperature is a chilly 62 degrees. Cold water plunging is shown to have many positive health effects. Among them, improved lung function to an increase in the release of depression-beating chemicals like noradrenaline and beta-endorphins. A cold plunge can also stimulate the lymphatic system, which boosts the production of infection-fighting cells to increase your immunity.
