Alpine Scenic Group 4×4 jeep tours are the perfect way to experience the San Juans with fellow adventurers. Four hours in length, these tours offer a mix of scenic driving and short on-foot excursions to hidden waterfalls, historic mining ruins, and panoramic overlooks. Our first-class tour trucks ensure you ride in comfort and safety as you take in the views.

All of our half day jeep tours give you 4 hours of exciting sightseeing, no matter which destination you choose. We keep our best tours close to Ouray, so there is very little highway travel. We strive to avoid crowded areas and explore little known side roads whenever possible.

During your jeep tour, our knowledgeable guides will share information about historical sites, geological features, local wildlife, flora and fauna over our onboard PA system. Stops are made to allow you to take photos or short scenic walks, but we don’t hang out in any one place for too long unless it is requested – there’s a lot to see so let’s get out and explore!

Yankee Boy & Governor Basin Tour

The tour that started it all! This classic route departs from Ouray and quickly provides breathtaking scenery as you wind your way up Canyon Creek.

The Bonus Tour visits Yankee Boy Basin and its famous wild flowers and mining ruins. Our tour continues on where the others turn around. The bonus is a visit to either GOVERNOR BASIN, SYDNEY BASIN, SILVER BASIN, UPPER YANKEE BOY BASIN or PORTIONS of IMOGENE PASS*. This trip traverses a wide variety of terrain and scenery. The “Bonus” tour will take you to wonderful places few visit or even know of. Our guides are the experts on finding you the best scenery on the day of your tour and we love to share the hidden gems. When you book let us know what you are most interested in seeing in space provided so we can customize your tour. You WILL see stunning waterfalls on this tour.

PLEASE NOTE: ​Some higher roads can be snowed in until July but we always will have a bonus for you in addition to seeing Yankee Boy Basin. Early season destinations include the rough and tumble “Amphitheater” or the panoramic Cutler Creek Trail.

Corkscrew + Hurricane Passes

Just a few miles up the road from Ouray lies the historic and colorful Red Mountain Mining district. Created by ancient volcanic activity, this unique mountain landscape boasts colors unsurpassed in the Rocky Mountains. This tour centers on Corkscrew Pass and visits various scenic lakes, historic mining ruins and grand vistas throughout the Red Mountain area.

Imogene Pass + Yellow Rose Falls

Imogene pass is debatably the most iconic high elevation pass in the heart of the San Juans. This tour is a high altitude scenic rollercoaster topping out at 13,114′. You’ll want to bring a jacket for this one. From the top of the pass you can take in the panorama including three major river basins and ten 14,000′ peaks on a clear day. The road also passes through the famous Camp Bird Gold Mine and its historic ruins. This trip includes several scenic detours for waterfalls and wild flower stashes. Imogene is a must see. Difficulty Rating 4.The Waterfalls on this tour are some of the best in the area, most notably Yellow Rose Falls!

Cancellation Policy

We understand – plans change! However, we kindly ask for a minimum of 72 hours notice if you need to cancel or change your trip:

• FULL REFUND for cancellations 3+ days (72 hours) in advance. We have a no questions asked refund policy if made within this time frame, so simply give us a call and leave a voicemail or shoot us an email. Any cancellations for any reason made under 72 hours of your trip departure time will be 100% forfeited and no refund will be issued. This policy is strictly enforced.
• NO RESCHEDULING within 72 hours of your tour departure time. We allow 1 reschedule per booking and will work with you to find availability on our calendar.
• NO SHOWS will be fully charged. We do not issue refunds if you are late and you miss your group tour.
• GROUP TOURS must meet a minimum of 4 passengers. If your group tour does not meet this minimum, we will contact you prior to your tour date to discuss further scheduling options and/or refunds.

We are a family-run business offering guided 4×4 tours in the stunning San Juan Mountains. Based out of Ouray, Colorado, we’re experts in adventure and the #1 rated tour company in the area.

Founder, Joe,  grew up exploring and adventuring in the Gila Mountains in Southern New Mexico, fueling his love of the outdoors and off-roading from an early age. When he was 10 years old, his family purchased a 1964 International Scout; his first introduction to a 4×4 vehicle. After that, he fell in love with everything the 4-wheel drive world had to offer. Joe enjoys spending his free time fishing, camping with his family, and riding his motorcycle. Being able to turn his passion for building trucks, maneuvering 4x4s, and exploring the high country into a successful business is his signature source of pride. He is eager to share these obsessions with fellow adventurers—from near and far!
