Winter activities in Boulder are not what you would think in Colorado. With temperatures that can bounce between 15 degrees and upper 60’s, there is a wide range of activities you can do in the winter months. The beauty of Colorado is the dry air and the warm sun. Skiing, Snowboarding & Cross Country Skiing
Eldora Ski Resort
The Eldora Ski Resort is located in Nederland, Colorado, a quick 20 minute drive up Boulder Canyon. They offer skiing, snowboarding and a Nordic center. Why wrestle the traffic and I 70 to get to the major resorts, when you can be on the slopes in 30 minutes!
Cross Country Skiing
Cross Country Skiing is a winter activity. There are over 40 miles of Nordic trails at Eldora Ski Resort or you could head to Brainard Lake to back country ski. Skis can be rented locally from Crystal Sports.
Snowshoe at Brainard Lake
Located 40 minutes north west of Boulder, near the town of Ward, is Brainard Lake Recreation Area. Here, there are plenty of trails to explore the forest on the snow covered trails. You can rent snowshoes locally at REI Boulder.

Fiske Planetarium
Fiske Planetarium is located on the beautiful campus of the University of Colorado, in Boulder, Colorado. It is a 65-foot diameter dome, the largest planetarium between Chicago and Los Angeles and seats 200 guests. Stepping into this dome feels like you’re stepping into a giant space ship. They offer a diverse range of full dome films, star talks, live talks, laser fantasy and liquid sky music shows, concerts, and theatrical productions. Plus, they host large public gatherings during celestial events, such as eclipses, conjunctions, etc. and NASA-related launches/landings.
Enjoy an exotic cup of tea at the Dushanbe Tea House
The Dushanbe Teahouse was constructed in Dushanbe, Tajikistan, Boulder‘s sister city. It was shipped to Boulder and now stands downtown as one of the most unique art displays of Colorado. You’ll come for the architecture, but you’ll stay for the incredible tea.
