Join Us for an Unforgettable Backcountry Dog Sled Adventure!
Experience the thrill of mushing your own team of Alaskan Huskies on a scenic 12.5-mile private trail in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Our 1/2 Day Adventure offers approximately 2 hours on-sled as you learn how to “Mush Your Own Dog Sled Team.” We start the ride by stepping onto the sled as a driver or settle in as a
We’ll stop at a few scenic points to check in, give the dogs a break, and snap photos for you.
At the halfway mark, if both guests are over 80 lbs, we’ll swap drivers so everyone gets the chance to mush. Smaller guests may also help by standing on the runners with an adult.
When you return to the kennel, it’s snuggle time! Say hello and thank your hard-working dog team before heading into our cozy warming hut. Relax by the fire with hot cocoa, apple cider, homemade cookies, and brownies.
Tour Details
We begin by meeting at the warming hut at 8:30am. If you need a shuttle ride, Grizzle-T picks up directly from most Steamboat Condos and Hotels. The pick up time is 8:00 am and will be an additional $25.00 per person. This can be added to your reservation at the time of booking.
To mush or drive a dog sled:
- Guests must be physically capable of standing on the back of a sled for 2+ hours in cold, winter conditions.
- Good balance and core strength are essential for safely driving a sled through snowy and sometimes uneven terrain.
- If you have any injuries, recent surgeries, or physical limitations, please contact us prior to booking so we can ensure a safe and appropriate experience.
To ride as a PASSENGER:
- Passengers will be seated in the sled basket on top of a cushion, bundled up in blankets.
- While riding requires minimal physical exertion, it still involves exposure to cold temperatures and variable terrain. Please be sure that you, and especially young children or elderly guests, are comfortable with extended time outdoors in winter conditions.
Note: Typically, there are 2 people per sled. For smaller children, we may occasionally have 3 people per sled, depending on the size and weight of the guests.

Itinerary
Your Dog Sledding Adventure Itinerary
Please arrive at the kennel at 8:30 AM, you’ll check in at our warming shed, where we’ll make sure you have all the necessary gear for your adventure.
Next, you’ll join your group for 10–15 minutes of instructions, learning the basics of how to operate a dog sled and what to expect on the trail. We’ll pause for a quick bathroom break before heading out.

Driving Yourself to the Trail
- Meet us at the trail at 8:30 am.
- Driving directions will be emailed in your confirmation.
- Please do not use our online mailing address for directions.
Taking the Grizzle-T Shuttle |
- Pickup Time: 8:00 am
- Our shuttle route changes daily based on guest locations and the number of stops we have that day.
What to bring
- Dress as you would for a day of skiing—wear warm layers and avoid cotton – micro wool base layer is recommended for extra warmth.
- Ski jacket & ski pants or similar insulated, wind- and water-resistant outerwear.
- Warm, insulated winter boots (above ankle height; no wedges).
- Winter hat and water resistant mittens or gloves (mittens are warmer!).
- Ski goggles and/or sunglasses.
- Hand and toe warmers (opened and pre-heated upon arrival).
- Sunscreen.
- Water bottle
- Camera
- Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
- Groups with a “Lap Child” (2 year old) must have one adult to hold the child and one to drive the sled.

Customers will receive a full refund with 72 hours notice of cancellation.

Weather & Trail Conditions
Please be aware that Grizzle-T Dog & Sled Works operates in a dynamic mountain environment where weather and trail conditions can change rapidly and unexpectedly. While we do everything we can to provide the experience as described, we cannot guarantee specific trail routes or conditions.
- We reserve the right to make last-minute changes to the route, including using alternate trails, if conditions require it for safety or operational reasons.
- In some cases, tours may need to be delayed, modified, or canceled entirely due to severe weather or poor trail conditions.
- These decisions are made solely with guest and dog safety in mind and are often out of our control.
We appreciate your flexibility and understanding as we work to deliver the safest and most enjoyable experience possible — even when Mother Nature throws us a curveball.
Pregnancy Policy
- For safety reasons, we cannot accept pregnant guests beyond 20 weeks for any sled ride—whether mushing or riding as a passenger.
- If you are under 20 weeks, we strongly recommend consulting your healthcare provider before booking.
- Participation while pregnant is at your own risk, and guests assume full responsibility for their decision to take part.

Grizzle T Dog & Sled Works is a family owned & operated company. Owner Kris Hoffman is a dog sledding guide, Iditarod Musher and race veteran. He is joined by his wife Sara and two small children, Hadley and Hunter. Located in Steamboat Springs, CO, we are a kennel with a 40 year history of racing & breeding Alaskan Huskies for the Iditarod.
We love being able to share this amazing sport and “forgotten way of life” with all of our guests. It is so rewarding to see the smile on someone’s face as they learn how to drive their own dog team and experience the thrill that is Dog Sledding.
