Once the snow melts, the warm Colorado sun gives way to a host of summer activities in Winter Park, Colorado.  The aspen trees are a vibrant green, the mountains are majestic ragged peaks and the trails are alive with wildflowers, bikers and hikers.

Summer festivals are a weekly form of entertainment in Winter Park.  June hosts the Blues From the Top Music Festival and July hosts the The Winter Park Jazz Festival two great weekends to build your vacation around. Outdoor concerts are a weekly event in town too.

Step away from luxury and try camping at one of the many campgrounds in the area.  You will wake up to the crisp Colorado air and dine al fresco at your campfire.  It’s an experience like no other.

Boating on Lake Granby

Paddle boats are one of the summer activities in Winter ParkWithin a 45 minute drive, Lake Granby, the largest natural body of water in Colorado, plus many other lakes and reservoirs await you.  Boating, water-skiing, sailing, and paddle boarding can be done until the leaves turn gold in the fall.

Explore Grand Lake

Just a short distance from Winter Park and Fraser you will find the historic town of Grand Lake.  There you can spend the day shopping, dining, kid-friendly activities, ice cream, and all your boating needs like marinas, docks, and outfitters.

Hiking

Winter Park has trails from easy 30 minute walks to 8 mile hikes to amazing water falls.  To search for local trails that fit your ability, visit All Trails. They give in depth directions and descriptions of the area trails.  Even the dog friendly ones too!  When hiking in Colorado, be prepared.  With the altitude and bluebird sky, the sun can be fierce.  Take sunscreen, lots of water and leave no trace!

Mountain Biking

If moving faster on the trails is your interest, then Winter Park is your destination for the summer.  Winter Park is one of the top mountain biking destinations in Colorado.  There are numerous beginner trails for visitors new to mountain biking.

Cycling

Another popular summer activity in Winter Park is cycling. The Fraser River Trail is a 5 mile, family friendly paved trail that you can bike, hike or walk on.  It’s a scenic adventure that winds you through Fraser, along the Fraser River and leads to the base of Winter Park Resort.  You can rent a bike at a local bike shop.  They will show you which bike best fits you.

Rocky Mountain National Park

Just an hour drive north and you enter one of the grandest national parks in Colorado.  Explore the park on Trail Ridge Road as it takes you to the Alpine Visitors Center situated at 12,000 feet above sea level.  While in the park, you can hike numerous trails and be on the look out for wildlife such as elk and moose!
