Fly Fishing on the Yampa River

One of the favorite pastimes in Steamboat is fly fishing the Yampa River.  Miles of public access await anglers to cast for rainbow and brown trout. The river offers a peaceful setting with stunning views and world-class trout. And the fun doesn’t stop when the snow starts falling, around here we cast our lines year-round.  Local outfitters offer daily guided trips. Get hooked up with one of our local shops in town if you need to rent equipment or would like to take a fishing excursion with a knowledgeable local guide.  If you would rather fish solo, you can explore the state park fishing grounds in summer or winter by heading out to Stagecoach, Pearl Lake or Steamboat Lake State Park.

Hiking

Steamboat Springs has trails from easy 30 minute walks to multi day trails.  To search for local trails, visit AllTrails | Steamboat, a great resource for local Colorado trails. They give in depth directions and descriptions of the area trails.  Even the dog friendly ones too!  When hiking in Colorado, be prepared.  With the altitude and bluebird sky, the sun can be fierce.  Take sunscreen, lots of water and leave no trace!

Mountain Biking

If moving faster on the trails is your interest, then Steamboat Springs is your destination for the summer.  Steamboat Springs is one of the top mountain biking destinations in Colorado.  There are numerous beginner trails for visitors new to mountain biking.  TheSteamboat Bike Park and Steamboat Springs Sky Mountain Park is a playground for seasoned riders.  To search for local trails, visit Trailforks.com.  There are many local bike shops that rent mountain bikes.

Cycling

Another popular summer activity in Steamboat Springs is cycling.  There are miles of dedicated bike paths throughout Steamboat Springs and points beyond.  You can rent a bike at a local bike shop.  They will help will show you which bike best fits you.
