Mountain Biking in Estes Park
In Estes Park, there are several mountain biking trails and the Stanley Park Bike Park. It is good to note, that most are rated black diamond. However there are some easier trails peppered throughout. Rides in Estes Park include:
Pole Hill Road
This is a network of forest service roads within the Arapahoe Roosevelt National Forest. Summer and Fall are great times to ride this 4×4 trail. There are some steep climbs, exhilarating downhills and beautiful scenery.
Limber Pine Trail
Limber Pine Trail is an intermediate trail located within Hermit Park, which is managed by Larimer County Parks and Open Space. With lots of twists and turns and rocks to navigate, you get your thrills here by employing good bike handling skills instead of screaming descents. These are beautiful trails, running through pine forest and some large stands of aspen trees.
Homestead Meadows
Homestead Meadows is an intermediate trail located within Hermit Park and the Arapahoe Roosevelt National Forest. You can find this trail from Moose Meadows which is in Hermit Park.
Old Fall River Road
A bucket list ride for sure. This trail is actually a 10 mile long dirt road that takes you up to 12,000 feet. The dirt road surface of Old Fall River Road is really smooth. But does have gravel and dirt on top of it. You will need a pass to enter that park, but you do not need a timed entry if you enter the park on your bike.
Please note, there are no trails within the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park you can ride. Mountain biking is prohibited.
Biking in Estes Park
Taking a ride in Estes Park on your road bike is an adventure with long climbs, fast descents and traffic. Particularly in the summer time, traffic is heavy, so use caution as not everyone understands “share the road”.
An iconic ride in Estes Park is Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. Trail Ridge is a paved road that takes you to 12,000 feet in elevation. The road does not open until to vehicular traffic until Memorial Day weekend, so during most of May, you can ride your road bike up Trail Ridge Road from Rainbow Curve.
